HEU’s diverse membership makes the union stronger, but many members still face barriers to fully participate in the union. This workshop is designed for members whose first language is other than English, to explore together the challenges they face, but also the strengths that can arise from intercultural exchange, and to identify how to strengthen solidarity within HEU and beyond.
In the HEU in your own language workshop, members will:
- Share a space where we can learn in a variety of languages.
- Learn about the systemic structures and the history of racism and discrimination in Canada and the world.
- Share experiences and reflect on how HEU can better address the socio-cultural diversity of its membership.
- Identify actions we can take to build stronger inter-cultural understanding and solidarity.
This workshop is being offered for the first time in a selected number of languages (Hindi, Punjabi, Tagalog and Spanish), and more options will be offered as we expand this project.
Please note, applications received after the deadline will not be accepted.

New Member Orientation
Learning about your local union is one of your most important negotiated rights as a union member. Every collective agreement has language to support a new member’s orientation to their own local and to HEU itself.
HEU is offering a one-day new member orientation workshop to support locals setting up and deliver union orientation (induction) sessions to all new members.
The Climate Crisis in the Workplace and our World Workshop
The climate crisis is one of the most urgent issues of our time. As healthcare workers, HEU members face the impact of this crisis daily, as it affects our health and the safety of our communities. Ecosystems, species, and all life on earth depend on a healthy planet, and we can all take action to protect it.
