Joining a union is your choice. It’s protected by law.
Under the B.C. Labour Relations Code all workers have the right to sign a card and vote to join a union without any interference, threats or intimidation from employers.
Your employer cannot:
- discharge, suspend, transfer, lay off or otherwise discipline workers who join a union or promote union membership to their co-workers
- impose contract or employment conditions that keep workers from exercising their right to organize
- intimidate, fire or threaten to fire workers in an effort to stop them from becoming members of a union
