Union dues are the contribution you make, as a union member, for all the benefits that come with union membership – bargaining a collective agreement, advocacy in the workplace, shop steward and occupational health and safety training, legal resources when required, representation, educational opportunities, and so much more.
Your union dues are 2.1 per cent of your gross pay.
And part of every dues dollar you pay goes right back to your HEU local. Those funds support activities undertaken by the local membership.
Are my union dues tax-deductible?
Absolutely. Your right to join a union and bargain a legally-binding collective agreement, is recognized by the Government of Canada in many ways. One of them is that our federal government has made union dues tax-deductible for all union members.
