The Hospital Employees’ Union has requested a meeting with B.C.’s new health minister Kevin Falcon to discuss the challenges facing the province’s health care sector and the opportunities for solutions.
In a letter congratulating Minister Falcon, HEU secretary-business manager Judy Darcy wrote that there are a number of areas where the union and his ministry can work together to improve health services and patient care.
“While we cannot understate the challenges faced by all stakeholders in delivering quality public health care to British Columbians,” says Darcy, “we all share a strong commitment to protecting and improving these services.”
Darcy also thanked George Abbott, the outgoing health minister, for his many years of service in this complex and important portfolio.
In recent years, HEU worked closely with the health ministry and made significant progress in a range of health policy areas, particularly nursing care and long-term care.
As B.C.’s largest health care union, and largest union of women workers in the province, HEU represents over 43,000 health care and community social services workers.
