“We welcome the government's ongoing commitment in this throne speech to protect public services and improve people’s lives during this time of uncertainty.

British Columbians support a quality health care system that requires good working conditions for workers to provide the best care for patients, residents and clients.

Over the last several years, we have seen significant improvements to B.C.'s health and seniors' care.

But there is more work to be done to attract, retain and support frontline health care workers to deliver that care as we continue to rebuild a health system that meets the needs of a growing and aging population.

Bargaining the next collective agreement for our members is a great opportunity to collaborate on the worker shortages that exist in our health system.

Together, we can ensure that health care workers are supported and that public health care remains strong and sustainable for years to come."

The Hospital Employees’ Union represents 60,000 health care workers across British Columbia. HEU members work in hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities and community services.
