"Today, HEU welcomes the announcement that the provincial and federal governments will invest $232 million to support compensation for care aides. This new funding will go a considerable way toward continuing to improve access to proper, unrushed seniors’ care.
Under the previous B.C. Liberal government, the long-term care sector was fragmented and underfunded. In the last several years, the B.C. NDP government has implemented measures to improve seniors’ care, but continued fragmentation has made this difficult.
For the past several years, we have been advocating for permanent standardized caring and working conditions across seniors' care. This will help protect quality care for our seniors and create a more sustainable long-term care sector going forward. British Columbians in long-term care deserve more stable, consistent care."
HEU represents 22,000 care aides across the health care sector.
