Premier Campbell well-advised to dump similar deal for health CEOs, union says
The Hospital Employees’ Union (CUPE) is applauding the Interior Health Authority’s bonus-busting decision announced earlier today and is calling on Premier Campbell to follow suit and abandon his similar financial incentive program for health authority CEOs. The IHA board has stalled for at least a year a controversial management performance bonus scheme that could have paid senior managers an additional 10 per cent of their salaries.
HEU spokesperson Chris Allnutt says the IHA board has done the right thing. “No one should be rewarded for reducing health care services, cutting front-line staff and closing hospitals and seniors’ care facilities.”
Allnutt says that Premier Campbell should do the same thing and dump his incentive program for health authority CEOs.
“If there’s any bonus money for the Liberal government’s health appointees, it would be much better spent improving health services for British Columbians and strengthening our public health care system,” Allnutt says.
