Workplace Stress Roundtable and Mental Health First Aid

This two-day training includes a roundtable on workplace stress and a course on mental health first aid.  Applicants must be living in Vancouver Island or Vancouver Coastal regions.

Part I: HEU OH&S Roundtable on Workplace Stress (one day) 
In this one-day roundtable participants will: 

  • Discuss their experiences with workplace stress
  • Explore workplace conditions that contribute to stress
  • Examine actions members and the union can take at the local, regional and provincial levels to address the problems present system-wide

Part II: The Mental Health Commission of Canada Mental Health First Aid Essentials (one day) 
In this one-day workshop, participants will gain:

  • An increase in mental health awareness
  • An understanding of stigma, diagnostic labeling, and barriers to helping
  • How to use ALGES framework to provide support
  • Effective communication techniques while supporting others experiencing a mental health challenge
  • Skills to reflect on your own mental health
  • An understanding of mental health support resources

Participants are expected to attend both days. 

Please note that this workshop is intended for HEU members who have not attended previous offerings of Workplace Stress Roundtable & Mental Health First Aid, virtual and/or in person.

We will not be covering how to care for patients, residents or clients who may be experiencing a decline in their mental health or a mental health crisis.
