The Hospital Employees’ Union (CUPE) today filed a counter suit in B.C. Supreme Court against A&A Services Co., alleging that the Vancouver-based cleaning company both defamed the union and interfered with its economic and contractual relations.
A&A Services Co. regional manager Dennis Sweetnam, and the company’s legal counsel, Susan Griffin of the Vancouver firm of Fraser Milner Casgrain, are also named as defendants in the counter suit.
The union also filed today its statement of defense in the defamation suit launched in June by 559971 B.C. Ltd., the numbered company which operates as A&A Services Co. It denies that its words and actions in regard to A&A were defamatory.
And the union says it will continue its efforts to appeal a recent B.C. Supreme Court ruling which injuncted the union from broadcasting a television ad about the privatization of health care services. That ad has been revised and is again being rebroadcast on the major TV stations in Vancouver, Victoria and Prince George.
