“My girlfriend works at Panago. Thanks to her prodding, Panago delivered a whack-load of pizzas to the hospital, multiple times to each and every department, and I helped her distribute them. She actually made the news, and that was kind of cool.
I’ve been a Stores Attendant at my hospital for about three-and-a-half years, and I’m the local treasurer.
My job is resupplying anything that’s not necessarily reusable – everything from needles and syringes, to diapers and briefs. I restock all the rooms with what they would use on a day-to-day basis, and then I replenish items, each day.
Sometimes, there are special orders that come from the Unit Clerk. If it’s a direct purchase, it would come from the CSL, who is the clinical lead of the department. That would be an extra duty that I would have to do, but for the most part, my job is doing rounds and top-ups.
It’s a very important job to make sure that everything is there for when it is needed. It’s one of the jobs that is semi-invisible until it’s not done right, then it’s noticeable. So, just the ability for us to keep things running smoothly and uninterrupted.
Stores covers the entire hospital, but I personally cover the entire third floor. That’s my designated zone, which is a surgical department and three medical departments.
There has been a lot of additional duties for our job, mostly related to Personal Protective Equipment and usage, and making sure that those supply chains are still intact.
We currently do have enough PPE, but definitely there have been some supply chain interruptions. There are always substitutes, or other means that would cover the same area, such as masks could be replaced with visors and goggles.
I personally don’t need to wear a mask or gloves, so lots of hand-washing and just being a little bit more careful on how everything is handled and where I go to, and which routes I take to deliver the stock.”
