Security guards at Prince George Regional Hospital are celebrating their first collective agreement, one that will mean a wage increase of up to 30 per cent – from $10 to $13 an hour – along with improved benefits and paid overtime.
The 20 security officers, who voted to join the Hospital Employees’ Union on May 20, ratified their first contract with Domcor Health, Safety & Security Ltd on August 14. The two parties arrived at a tentative agreement during their second day of bargaining on August 3.
The union says the first collective agreement is a positive step forward that will bring stability to the workforce and will recognize the important role security officers play in ensuring a safe environment for patients and hospital staff.
