Canadian Association of Labour Media recognizes anti-privatization campaign, seniors' care print ads The Hospital Employees' Union collected two awards for communications excellence at the annual meeting of the Canadian Association of Labour Media held this past weekend in Saskatoon. HEU received the "Muckraking" award for a campaign it waged late last year to maintain public delivery of laboratory services in the Capital Health Region. The campaign linked multi-national lab giant MDS Inc. to health care privatization in other jursidictions including to a private hospital in Alberta that is poised to benefit from new private hospitals legislation. The union also received the "Best Print Ad" award for a series of advertisements that focussed on the need to develop a comprehensive seniors' care strategy in British Columbia. The ad was designed for HEU by Working Design of Vancouver. "The energy and inspiration for both these communications projects comes from the members of our union," says HEU secretary-business manager Chris Allnutt. "Their commitment to strengthening and improving our health care system provides us with our best material."
