A New Certification is a newly organized site where workers from a private facility have come together to join HEU and negotiate a new Collective Agreement.
Specifically designed for New Certifications, this two-day training offers information, skills-development and tools for new HEU members who are interested in becoming shop stewards at their worksite.
At this workshop participants will:
- Learn about the Employment Standards Act and how to apply it at work.
- Review the Certification process and how a new HEU Collective Agreement is negotiated.
- Learn about the role and responsibilities of a shop steward, and how to interpret and defend collective agreement provisions.
- Learn about HEU’s structure and the importance of union solidarity.
- Be introduced to the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion at HEU
- Practice the basics of investigating and writing grievances.
You must be from a Newly Certified site. Please make sure to share the name of who is endorsing your application when you submit it.
Members who are not from a Newly Certified site should apply to the Introduction to Shop Stewarding workshop.
